Creative holiday decorations
This is Kevin Kelly , and I have posted photos of mygarden in the past . With the holidays approach , I thought I would share picture of some of the beautiful hand - made wreaths at Colonial Williamsburg . I was just there and had a wonderful time . I hope they bring on the vacation feel .
Pine ramification and holly make a traditional foot for this wreath , and then gamboge studded with cloves make an unexpected and beautiful emphasis … bet it smells amazing too !
Not just conifers can be a nucleotide of a garland … the glossy , everygreen leaf of Southern magnolia ( Magnoliagrandiflora , Zone 7 – 11 ) are the foundation of this one , accented with citrus , pomegranate , and Genista raetam berries .

Or you could get really creative , as with this wreath made from newspaper rosebush !
Fresh apples impart color , and there is the total sake and grain of dry out flush – it looks like dry sunflowers and cardoon ( Cynaracardunculus , Zone 7 – 10 or as yearly )
More dried flowers fill in the center of this chaplet , and the whole thing is accented with various strobilus and dried germ heads . Lots of coolheaded materials to be found in most garden one you start looking .

Dried flowers feature prominently here too , and beautifully dried citrus – each one is slashed along the length and then dried , so the will be long - lasting on the coronal , and the cuts in the skin make a beautiful pattern .
Love this amazing creation … can it even be telephone a lei ? Made from the dried head of what look like wheat or maybe barley , stress with okra semen pods , and the center filled with pomegranate and artichokes . It look like nearly everything on this is from an edible works , but reimagined as beautiful art .
The coronal itself here is hushed simple – some pine branch , burlap , and a few smuggled decoration . Sometimes less is more !

And here is the other extreme : More is more ! oodles of dried flower , and fruit , combined with shells , fabric , and dramatic peacock feather !
