Big flower power from small plants
Brigitta Stewart , the owner of the small mail - order nurseryArrowhead Alpinesin Michigan , has a garden full oftiny hoarded wealth , many of them very rare — exceptional plants that you do n’t see in many garden .
Irispumila(Zones 3–8 ) is a lilliputian species of bearded iris that is the ascendent of the miniature bearded iris hybrids . But the species itself is quite beautiful without any hybridization at all , and comes in a few colour . This very exceptional soma of the species has singular , almost turquoise flowers that are unlike those of any other fleur-de-lis .
Other selections ofIris pumilaand other petite works grow in a little rock garden in the front of the nursery .

One of Brigitta ’s specialties is alpine daphnes . These tinyevergreen shrubsdemand perfect drainage , doing well in sandy soils or in araised bedor promote garden with a well - drain soil commixture ; otherwise they are not voiceless to make well-chosen . This isDaphne×hendersonii‘Fritz Kimmert ’ ( Zones 4–7 ) , which combines fragrant pinkish heyday with dark , glossy , evergreen foliation .
Daphnejuliae(Zones 4–7 ) is a stunning show - show-stopper of a plant . seem at the unbelievable canvass of pink flowers ! It is hard to match alpine Daphne for sheer bloom powerfulness in the leap .
A few geezerhood ago , Brigitta noticed a little daphne grow in her garden that did n’t look quite like any of the others . She move it to its own layer , and now it is clear that it is some kind of opportunity hybrid the bee made that happened to manage to germinate and thrive . It is undecipherable what the exact parentage of this lilliputian plant is , but it is totally beautiful .

All the references say thatAsarummaximumis only hardy in Zones 7–9 , but this one is thriving and blossom in Brigitta ’s garden all the same . Who lie with if that is just the luck of a mild wintertime or if it will persist foresighted term , but it sure is beautiful .
