Even the smallest spaces can become gardens
My name is Kerry and I live in Portland , Oregon . When I moved into my home eight years ago , the modest side yard consisted of concrete and a chain - liaison fence . Over clock time , my husband and I replaced the fencing and tot up immature . We love oursmall garden !
A world of divergence in this small-scale place !
On the north side we painted toilet andwindow boxesand hung them on the fence . Here thestrawberriesgrowing in the paint gutters are begin to produce .

The catmint(Nepeta× faassenii , Zones 4–8 ) growing in the window boxes on the fence is beautiful , and the hummingbirds and bees enjoy it too !
We planted a variety ofsucculentson the land along the fence , which we carve up as they grow.(This see like it might be purple ice plant : Delospermacooperi , Zones 5–9 ) .
On the south side we make plantation owner box , where we growvegetables , herb , and flowers . We addedrain barrelsfor water during Oregon ’s wry summertime .

To maximise grow space , we usedhanging baskets , container , andtrellises . I savour all of the colors and scents as I walk by .
A nasturtium(Tropaeolummajus , yearly ) is in one of the pay heed baskets .
‘ Mr. Lincoln ’ rose is a classic kind famous for its rich non-white ruby-red color , beautiful human body , and strongfragrance .

We describe part of the fence with a small espalierapple tree diagram . The Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree is transplant so that each of the three rows is a unlike assortment of apple . Our dog ’s ducky is the Honeycrisp!(Want to learn more about making espaliers ? Check outthis clause . )
We painted a wooden pallet , found it with succulents , and positioned it on the back of the fencing . The succulents spread to the surrounding area as well .
