A combination of sweet mint and pineapple sage means many sweet summertime treats. Here’s how to grow a sweet herb planter and how to enjoy the results.weet

I think it was on a cold day in January that I daydreamed about sit on the sunny patio , feet up , fountain gurgling and a refreshing mojito in hand . I finally made that pipe dream number true after growing my own Mentha spicata ( Mentha spicata ) to create the classical Cuban cocktail .

There aremany kind of mintsto develop in your garden , and there are so many way you could use them in your cooking , too . Instead of being distracted by chocolate mint , orange mint or even apple mint , I looked for the mint that would make the expert mojitos .

I planted one small container of spearmint on the high shelf of a plant stand to protect it from little mammals and to keep it from going unwarranted in my garden . On the other side of the ego - lachrymation container , I planted another cherubic herbaceous plant , pineapple salvia .

The container gets sunrise sun , but then it ’s shaded during the hottest part of the day . These two herbs involve nothing more than irrigate when needed and a few feeding of a liquified soluble plant food through the summer .

Even if these were n’t grow for their culinary uses , they make beautiful foliage plants . The pineapple sage ’s leave-taking are especially endearing and their sweetness was a nice addition to cut heyday arrangements .

After my retentive gardening wait , the mint was quick to blame and muddle into one of the coolest rum drunkenness recipes around . I made my mojito by crushing a fistful of pile provide together with a couple of torpedo of fresh slaked lime , add up several tablespoons of white sugar ( or more to try out ) , meet the trash with frappe cubes , pour out about a ½ cup club soda pop and stirred in about 1 ½ ounces white rum . More slew leave of absence and lime wedge serve as attractive garnish .

The pineapple sage has made for some interesting recipes , too . I ’ve prune the fresh leave into fruit salads and fling them into green salads for a surprising sweet complement to just - picked tomatoes . The ananas taste has also tote up a nice touch to sandwiches used in place of average scratch .

Before the season ’s over , I design to dry out a good amount of both the mint and the pineapple salvia . No doubt , these two sweet herbs will help me get through the wintertime until it ’s time to plant them again next year .
