Sometime during my girl Kelsey ’s grade school age , she and I started a little oddment - of - the - school - twelvemonth tradition call the Summer Fun List .

To kick off summer vacation , we would sit together at the computer and brainstorm a to - do inclination of gratifying summer activities .   We ’d each take routine dreaming up peradventure 25 - 30 ideas , type each in a fun , unlike font .

After it was eat up , we tape the listing in a prominent piazza where we could concern to it often and check off the activities we ’d done .

We seldom accomplished every single thing we ’d listed , but no matter — looking back at the pen - struck lean when school started in September helped us remember just how wondrous and action at law - packed our summer had been .

What sort of thing were on the list ?   All kind , really , and of row it changed each class , although some favorites reappear on a regular basis .   We tried to balance free bodily process ( i.e. pick daisies ) with one that would be money ( visualise a summertime flick ) , simple pleasure ( blow bubbles ) with the more complex ( build a Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree house ) , small dream ( go to the beach ) with the big ( take a trip to France ) .

Yesterday , follow an good afternoon cram with farm chores , I creep into our rainbow - color knoll for the first meter this summer .   As I swung and gaze at the sky , it of a sudden occurred to me that Kelsey and I had n’t made our Summer Fun Lists during her last few years of high schooltime .

This year I thought about it , and then promptly leave again as her graduation swept us into summer in a crazy hurry .   possibly she ’s get down too previous for such thing anyway , I thought .

And then I thought , Swinging in this knoll is really fun , and made a small genial check - mark .   Maybe we ’re never too old for a Summer Fun List .

Here ’s a sampling from our retiring lists to give you some ideas , in example you ’d wish to try making one with your nestling .   It ’s unquestionably not too later — we still have plenty of summer left to go !
