Six on Saturday. In the Greenhouse.
The last few days have been windy and showery , so now seems a skillful time to croon over beauties in the greenhouse . One ledge is taken up with my nerines which are wait for their time of glory later as the summer comes to an end . Under the staging are all the pots of slip which I am compel to take whether I need more plants or not .
But I keep one shelf for the show of whatever is in flower at the consequence . If I was doing this last month my epiphyllum would have been ask centre degree with their ludicrously flamboyant flowers in shadiness of pinkish , scandalmongering and cherry . I have rather a lot of epiphyllums and I do n’t know why ; they only bloom for two or three days , and they take up ever more way with their long , spreading tentacles . This is the last bloom crumple .
So epiphyllum , lovely as they are , do n’t make it to my chosen six today . As I love scented heyday , I am starting with the gloriously scented and very aristocratic , Hymenocallis‘Sulphur pouf ’ . Its common name is Peruvian daffodil , but I tell you that reluctantly because of course it is not a daffodil , so countenance ’s not pretend it is . I bonk its frilled corona discharge and long filaments and the green stripes in its throats . Next year I shall buy more medulla and try some in the garden although they will have to come up in for winter as they are not hardy .

Tweedia caerulea
I usually have a pot or two ofHabranthus robustusin the greenhouse as they sow copiously . They are much roll in the hay by slug and you have to be vigilant otherwise you will notice the thirstily look flowers have been manducate off . I always imagine they were called Habranthus robustusbut now I find that is a synonym and the right name isZephyranthes robustus . They are a member of the amaryllis family . As they seed so generously I consider I shall try some alfresco in my gravel garden .
Next to the zephyranthes and looking very nice is a succulent I would never buy or even glance at ordinarily . It is a kalanchoe that a kind ally move over me and I put it in the greenhouse and forget all about it . But it is asphyxiate in pink - blush white blooms and looking wonderful .
link up this footling group of pink and white are a few pots of starryRhodohypoxis baurii . These are clump forming tuberous plants from South Africa . In hypothesis these can be grown outside in a gay ironical spot but I have never managed it . They need to be keep teetotal in winter and so it is well-off to keep them in the greenhouse where you’re able to ensure their surround . They like a slightly acidic territory . If you pick off the deadened flowers they will bloom for age . Once they finish blooming then they need to be retain teetotal .

Tweedia caerulea
Every year I buy a couple of hippeastrums for Christmas and to my shame until now I have never got them to bloom again . To my astonishment this one decide to give me a beautiful summer bloom and I am captivated . I ca n’t boast about it though as it is more by accident then design . by the way , I do n’t know why mass still call theseAmaryllis . They are in theAmaryllidaceaefamily butAmarylliscome from South Africa and these looker issue forth from the Americas .
My last plant comes from South Africa too . It is a behemoth with a electric-light bulb as bragging as a grapefruit . It isAlbuca nelsoniior Nelson ’s Slime Lily , if you prefer its rather unpleasant rough-cut name , I encounter it rather violative . The lily-white flowers with a green mark are very eye - catching . It is soft to get more as each bubil will grow on .
Albuca shawii is another reasonably albuca with icteric smaller , bell -shaped flower , it is not yet in heyday but I will show you by and by how pretty it is .

So there we have it , six of my glasshouse beauties . But what a shame to miss out some of the others . I will protrude a few in a gallery if it is not cheating too much . I believe thePropagatorwho hosts this meme is quite rigorous in his requisite but maybe he wo n’t note . Anyway , do crop up over to see how he and other Sixers are clear up a rather dull Saturday .

Hello ChlorisWhat a wonderland of plants . Thought greenhouses were just for propagation but yours is an like an exotic indoor garden .
On this occasion , I have a number of the plant you boast , or at least some in the same genus . You throw me at first with the book of facts to Habranthus , which I recognized as Zephyranthes , commonly called rain lilies here ; however , as there ’s been no rainfall , I ’ve no flowers yet this class . I experience much as you do about my Epiphyllums , which are in my shade theater and have yet to bloom – they ’re too big and with no bloom not deserving the limited space I have . The Kalanchoe are common here and I ’ve a few in bloom in my shade house now . I ’m trying to naturalise my Hippeastrum puniceum as they spread promptly in my former garden but they ’re not as happy in this one . My Albuca has been swamped by rampant succulent .
Oh a glasshouse load down with such flowers as yours would have been a most enjoyable place to be on the foul sidereal day we have had here Chloris . I ’m not sure why but the albuca has got me thinking of wood anemone 😄
