Spring in a small community garden
Today Eric Sternfels is taking us to visit a beautiful community - create garden in Philadelphia calledNed Wolf Park . He introduce us to this lovely garden before ( A Garden Made by a biotic community ) , and I ’m excited to take a stumble back .
A few years ago you featured an ornamental biotic community garden in Northwest Philadelphia , in a neighborhood called Mt. Airy . As the springiness has build , I ’ve claim more photos of young features . Ned Wolf Park is just 50 foot by 150 feet , but it manages to take lot of productive plantingcombinationsin successional planting strategies . Because of the pandemic , the parking lot ’s gardens have become a more special destination for the community to fit and to practice tai chi or yoga .
This is atulipthat decidedly pace out of the ordinary . The pink petal of ‘ China Town ’ are each painted with a flame of green , and the leaf is outlined with white-hot variegation . Here is an elegant standout paired with the silver - and - fleeceable leaves ofBrunneramacrophylla(Zones 3–8 ) .

In front of this bench is a gloomy mass of lavender - pink flowers fromCardaminequinquefolia(Zones 6–8 ) , an unusual bounce ephemeral that goes sleeping and disappear after it finishes efflorescence .
Another unusual tulip , this is the variety ‘ Green Star ’ .
Another view of the beautiful flowers of ‘ Green Star ’ .

Ableeding heart(Dicentraeximia , Zones 3–9 ) , with its nodding pinkish flowers and ferny foliation .
This spectaculartree peony(Paeoniasuffruticosa , Zones 3–8 ) has a exclusive layer of petals , the better to show off the dramatic morose oculus in the blossom . ( get word more about tree diagram peonies here . )
Japanese maples(Acerpalmatum , Zones 5–9 ) may never be as beautiful as when their leave are just open up in the spring .

Grape hyacinths(Muscariarmeniacum , Zones 3–9 ) make a grand empurpled - blue background to these melon vine - colored tulips .
I love this aspect . There is something so peaceful and beautiful about this space , and the row of empurpled tulip is just the complete complement to the art on the wall .
The heyday color of this tulip is utterly echoed by the leafage of the heuchera ( Heucherahybrid , Zones 4–9 ) implant around it .
