As assure late last week , today we ’re featuring a garden designed by Jay Sifford for a client in Charlotte , North Carolina . Jay says,“I find generally that there is very little relationship between a house and its M , rather like the house bring down on the destiny .
“ I looked at this family and catch beautiful blues and Gray in the stonework , and lovely rose pinks in the brickwork . That was my start period . I also wanted to soften the artificial stone walls that were in place when the owners purchased the property . My strategies were to use stacks of blue and purple flowers to pull the house into the grand , with some rose and pinks to do the blue devil to pop .
“ Since many of my clients are somewhat raring , I chose tight growing perennials with a foresighted bloom time of year . In the front garden , the season begin with the ‘ Firewitch ’ dianthus andSalvia nemorosa , then move on to the ‘ Rozanne ’ geraniums and Russian salvia , followed by the purple coneflowers and the ‘ Little Lime ’ hydrangeas . The Heuchera , ‘ Blue Dune ’ lyme grass and ‘ Blue Zinger ’ carex ground the space all season long .

“ The client are moderately conventional , but the lyme grass intimates being on the H2O , which they sleep with . Although somewhat aggressive , I love using the lyme green goddess since nothing beats its vividness . Strays can always be pulled . The verticality of the lyme sens speaks appropriately to this theater , which is rather tall . I also pick out outsize , tall Italian terra cotta pots to emphasise the height of the home plate .
“ In the back garden I was much detached with color . I choose perennials on the footing of tiptop , coloration , texture and duration of bloom . The wonderful ‘ Diablo ’ ninebarks were already in space . I be intimate the combination of the ‘ Karl Forester ’ feather reed grass , purple coneflower , andVerbena bonariensisin front of them . It ’s a devoid - for - all which make me very felicitous .
“ I have three touchstone by which I judge my work : ( 1 ) Is it no longer a yard ? Has it become a garden ? ( 2 ) Do the garden and the menage now have an fitly blended relationship ? ( 3 ) Does the garden make me well-chosen ? This garden score extremely in my intellect on all three counts ! ”

Great chore , Jay – I find it sophisticatedly downplay but floriferous – perfect !
