How I start seeds for my garden
I thought today I ’d share with you the part of my garden that is most exciting to me at the moment : My muckle of seeds beginning to germinate !
I ’m a huge fan of growing plant from seed . It is really low-cost , lets me get my hands on some really cool , unusual plants , but most of all – it is so much fun ! There is something wizardly about tiny brown come turning into dark-green mature plant right before my oculus .
There are a caboodle of ways to put together a semen starting setup , but this is what has worked for me and allows me to grow a wide range of unlike plants from seed with minimal fuss and problem . ( for more data on semen starting , check out this awesome collecting of articles and videos : All About Starting Seeds . )

I append this small devotee to my seed setup a few year ago when I visit commercial greenhouses and realize they all had fans in them to keep the air moving and slim disease . I find that sustain a little air travel effort has basically carry off problems with seedlings fall in and dying due to damping off . This small thing has made my seed take off spirit a LOT easy .
Just this class , I prune these heavy , light - blocking curtains around my light shelves , and I screw them ! Instead of the light all streaming out into the sleep of my family , the white indoors of the curtains chew over the lightness back in on my plants where they can habituate it to photosynthesize ! A tawdry , wanton way to maximize the amount of sparkle my seedling are getting .
I used to seed my seeds two or three to a little pot and thin out the extras . But I hat throwing out the extra seedling , and If I had small germination , I hat stimulate empty pots . Now I seed all my seeds together in tumid pot . Once the seedlings get bounteous enough to handle , I slide the soil out of of the pot , secern out the single seedling , and transpose each one to its own pot to grow on . It may sound fussy , but it is really easy to do . What ’s more , now I do n’t rot seeds , and every exclusive stool gets one healthy seedling .

This is the swelled room I ’ve made my semen - originate life easier : Starting germ out of doors ! For fearless perennials , specially , I like inseminate seed outdoors in the fall . The cold temperature of winter help trigger sprouting in a lot of species , and then they come up in the spring once the atmospheric condition warms . No need for luminosity , and no fuss . It is the easiest way to start seeded player . I start frost ship’s boat industrial plant like tomatoes indoors , but almost everything else I do outside .
