GPOD on the Road: Beacon Hill Park

A mossy lady, sensational annual plants, and rogue peacock made this public garden one to remember

Happy Friday GPODers !

We ’re back on the route with another section from my trip to Vancouver Island . First , I spotlight the fabulous summer arrangements in the uppercase metropolis of Victoria ( Annual Arrangements in Victoria ) , then I pick out you into the rainforest to see from of the island ’s biggest celebrities ( The Famous Trees of Vancouver Island ) , and now I ’m bringing you back to Victoria to a famous park with fabulous public gardens .

Beacon Hill Park is about 200 Akka and features many notable attractive force like ocean perspective , one of the largest totem poles in the earth , legion sport fields , and even a petting zoo during the summer . I came here on a time crunch , so you experience there was one affair on my mind : plants .

While annuals are to be expected , and some tropical plant normally make it into that mix , I can confidently say I would have never imagined seeing palm trees in a Canadian public garden garden like this . If I had more time , this bench perfectly localise in the tone would have been a sensational maculation to stop and enjoy this stunning long perimeter .

flock of wide-ranging paths criss crossed through the park , leading you on all different type of adventures . One such route brought me to this attractively keep point of intersection , have many of the same plants seen in the foresighted moulding above . Many of the colors on display also reminded me of the incredible hang basketful I saw scattered throughout the city ( be certain to check those out here ) , and feed me the sense that every planting in the city was connected . Maybe just a conjunction , but utterly a beautiful one !

In the center field , this sun telephone dial gets tons of character with a touch of patina and contrast so nicely with the plosion of color behind .

A closer aspect at one of those beds , start out a better facial expression at the tropical leafage and those incredible papyrus plants ( Cyperuspapyrus , Zones 9–12 or as an one-year ) . really the firework of the flora world !

Then I finally made it to the primary reason I press this ballpark sojourn into my slip : Beacon Hill Park ’s noted Moss Lady . Purposefully hidden in a umbrageous garden bed , this incredible carving is made of cement , bowlder , metal pipe , and vinyl - cake volaille wire to plunk for clay - based soil that cling to its open . alas , the quiescence lady was n’t looking peculiarly mossy on this daylight , but I was excited to see what look like lots of new planting onto her body . Would sleep with to go back in the time to come and see how the plantings has evolved and grown .

If you walk by too fast , you ’ll absolutely miss it ( I did on the first liberty chit ! ) , but once you find her face it ’s incredible to see her body ostensibly appear right before your middle .

Not far from this Moss Lady I recover another unexpected sight in a Canadian public park , a peacock ! No , not another interesting art instalment , there are actual Inachis io that ramble baseless at the common after beingintroduced in 1891 . He seemed to enjoy this shady garden region as much as I did !
