Some beloved plants for the end of the growing season
Fall is probably my best-loved time in the garden . It ’s got cooler weather , the rich teemingness of harvest home time , and the blooms of so many wonderful plants coming into their peak . It ’s a restful time for me . In give , I feel like I have a to - do leaning 10 miles long , and I never have metre to get to it all . In summer , I ’m always interest about drought and keeping up with weeding . But in the fall , I just get to relax and enjoy it all . Here are some things I ’m loving in my fall garden right now . What about you ? What ’s fix you happy this autumn ?
American beautyberry ( Callicarpa americana , Zones 6–10 ) is a bush you just do n’t notice most of the year . The flowers are rather small and the leaves unexciting , but as summertime winds down , it put on one of my favorite show of all time — each stem line with clusters of vivid purple berry . It thrives in part spectre , and I be intimate the way it brings coloration to fill in gardens that tend to be pretty laborious on saltation blossom . This mintage is also native to a all-encompassing swath of easterly North America , which is a great asset . For some reason , the Asiatic species of beautyberry are sometimes more often sold in nurseries , but I think the native one is the most attractive .
Zinnia haageana(annual ) has been blooming all summer , but it really is top out now . I eff the rich autumnal mix of semblance in the flowers . I love allzinnias , but my regular garden zinnias ( Zinniaelegans , annual ) have gotten to the ugly stagecoach , with lots of mould on their foliage , while this petty beauty is still looking wild .

rose ! I love rose , and so many of them really seem to peak at the end of the time of year . This is ‘ Strike It Rich ’ , which is beautiful and very resistant to disease .
Rosa rugosa(Zones 2–9 ) is one of the toughest roses out there , and it blooms right up to the end of the twelvemonth . The simple flowers are fragrant and much loved by my neighbour ’s honeybees .
I have n’t had Robert Lee Frost in the garden yet , but if I ’m golden , I ’ll get it like this again — perfectly begild a freshly opened blush wine . Frost signals the end of the season for most plants , but often it does so beautifully !
