I know I should n’t laughat this woman ’s tale , but I did :
“ Last year I blend on vacation with a non - medical friend to the Caribbean island of Tobago . Moments by and by we mark a strange peppery flavour in our mouths , which gradually progressed to a burning , tearing superstar and stringency of the pharynx . The symptom aggravate over a yoke of hours until we could just swallow solid food because of the excruciating pain and the smell of a vast obstructing pharyngeal lummox . deplorably , the pain was exacerbated by most alcoholic drink , although mildly mollify by pina coladas , but more so by milk alone . ”
Manchineel trees are one of the nastiest plants on the planet .
They are straight out ofThe Twilight Zone .
Often plant forager ( myself include ) becomeblaséabout the dangers inherent in the plant world .
We ’ll take a nip of something here and a taste perception there , forgetting that some flora defend themselves quite astoundingly from incautious grazers .
Dumbcane , anyone ?
This woman was lucky to survive her clash with manchineel .
Have a terrific Lord ’s Day and remember not to nibble plants without a well guide book . Or paid up life indemnity .
