A blog Wiley Post I compose a while back “ Lime and Sulfur Spray – Great Way to Knock Down Fungus On Your blush wine ” got a terrific response from all of you .   So much so that I ’d care to proceed this treatment on disease bar .

Here is my second tip for helping prevent disease on your roses .

Do Nothing .

Article image

That is not a misprint .   I really just said doing nothing can assist your pink wine with disease prevention .

How does this work ?

Roses , like all plants , have natural immune organisation .   And while under flack from fungus their natural immune system of rules actually ramp up and becomes more dynamic .   And in my experience the more I uncover my young roses to the local strains of fungi like blackspot , the more immune to them they become .

Article image

Think of a young nestling on their first day of school or kindergarten .   At first they take hold of every breed of frigidity around .   But after becoming exposed to them their immune organisation adjusts and they get fewer colds .   But they have to trance , or be exposed to , that nervous strain of cold to become more resistant to it .

It ’s the same with pink wine .

There is some thought that always spraying our pink wine with chemicals actually foreclose them from establish up their own resistant system of rules .    They become indolent because the spray does all the piece of work .   Personally I do n’t want the “ Couch Potato ” rose plant in my garden !

Article image

Additionally , there is thought the chemical substance might really interfere or suppress the natural immune system .   Many plants fight fungus with natural fungus of their own .   The chemical substance do n’t separate between harmful and good fungi .   Just like insect killers do n’t separate between the aphid and the lady bug .

Stopping spraying your rose to allow them to build up their own immune system mean you garden is n’t going to look so good for a while .   It remove prison term for them to adjust .   It also mean freshly plant roses might not look serious for the first year or so as they correct to your area .   And some blush wine wo n’t adjust at all and should just be replaced with a more disease resistant one .   After all , this whole construct initiate with Garden Roses that are naturally disease resistant .

But in the long rill doing nothing means you will have intelligent plants that are adept capable to ward of disease on their own .   I recognise this for a fact because the now some 400 roses in my nursing home garden have not been spray for close to 10 yr and each year they get better and better .
