“ We have about 80 acres in pasture . Four years ago our co op started a spray program . Having horse grazon was recommended . I was recite it was dependable for the knight to stay in the pasture while it was sprayed and even okay for the horses to eat while still blotto . I was never told not to compost the manure . Two twelvemonth ago I startle composting manure out of the pasture , this yr I started give it to friend . What a * * * * * mess . I spent a lot of time with a shovel collecting the manure , turning it , and delivering it to acquaintance . I ’ve had two striking me about their garden and problem they ’re having . Recognize Grazon is a Serious Problem
No , it ’s NOT that the manure is too red-hot or not composted enough . blockade blaming the nurseryman . A bunch of farmers and nurseryman have been grow with manure for years and never had anything like this take place . I recognize what too much N look like , as does pretty much every person I ’ve met who has been hit with a Grazon kill in their beds .
It ’s a serious , persistent , long - term herbicide that is bring up in plant material and can be consumed by animals , passed through in their manure , then still be toxic to gardens even after months or possibly age of composting .
It is evil . It is foul . It is here and if you put manure on your garden without knowing 100 % that it ’s not contaminated with this crap , you are running a very high-pitched risk of lose your plants .
What Does Grazon Contamination Look Like
If you think you have been hit with Grazon , look at the leaves . If they look weirdly twisted and curled and you ’ve applied manure , straw or hay at some period , it ’s probably Grazon .

Fixing Grazon Contamination

First of all , slay all the manure you could . Get it out of your garden beds . Scrape it and confuse it somewhere at the bound of your property or in an empty good deal where it wo n’t hurt anything else .
Take out the plant that have already been effectuate and throw them aside . Do n’t compost them , because that will just add the toxin to your compost . Throw them out or check them where you upchuck the manure .

And throw in compost – NOT aminopyralid - plait compost – when you do , knowing that the charcoal grey is going to suck a lot of the nutriment out of the soil along with the weedkiller . A Quaker of mine had some of her tomatoes be through Grazon - foul manure thanks to the ash and charcoal she had planted them in . The ones which get the manure without the charcoal were destroyed .
Another option is to plant member of the eatage family for a couple of seasons . They are not affect by the toxin as it ’s targeted at broad - leaf industrial plant , not sess . you could plant corn and grains and they ’ll produce . Again , though , do n’t compost the stalks .
The terminal affair I would say on this is : plain ! differentiate everyone about this food waste . It should be illegal , as it ’s doing untold wipeout to garden and farm across the country . There is no responsible path to use this poison . It needs to be done out with . Vermont hasalready pulled the trigger . The rest of the res publica should watch .
