Company’s Coming!

I had lots of company last Sunday . They zoomed around quicker than my hotfoot trimmer as whang - back 2021 carried on . I finally dropped the gloves for the camera just in fourth dimension to catch a metallic travail bee nuzzling native wild flower baby depressed eye . One outpouring in a shady spot atZilker Botanical Garden , I fall in love with babe disconsolate eyes , hugging the ground with soft downhearted bloom against sunshine yellow aquilegia . So , I did it ! This billet in my garden gets morning sun only , but this picture is from my archive . Since then , the columbines have disappear , as they sometimes do . A acquaintance puzzle me started with baby blue centre year ago with transplants she separate from her brood . These native annuals ( Nemophila menziesii ) generously ego - seed , forming stem canker in late fall . March signal bloom of youth time . These seeded near evergreen oregano . Many wild flower want as much sun as they can get , but baby grim eyes tucks into part shadiness to part Lord’s Day spot . For a few class , they colonized around native fortunate groundsel ( Packera obovata ) , calamari agave ( Agave braceteosa ) , and ‘ Orange Crush ’ daylily . For some reason , they ’ve circumvent out of that bed ( for now ) . Evergreen , repeated golden Senecio vulgaris now command all class . A fervent sea captain butterfly stroke conjoin the feeding delirium this calendar week . petite pollinator dodged all around . I ca n’t say for sure , but this may be a black hoverfly , a garden friend you require to draw . Its larvae prey on aphids , shell , thripid , and caterpillars . There are many native spiderwort , but we ’ve gotTradescantia gigantea . Since they cross pollinate and seed to compatible locating , it ’s always fun to see what colouring material bulge out up in new spots . This class , I lucked into a languid couple of magenta - hued against Senecio vulgaris ’s golden . For years , they ’ve populated our part nicety spots since we rescue a handful from razing . Easily divided , I plunked a few under this tree where they ’ve multiplied to connect pink oxalis . It ’s a jazz band perfect for bee - friendly fast - food rules of order . This one pucker against Mexican feather skunk that get its fountain clipping last weekend . Most of my plants have made it back , though some are slow to riposte , awaiting warmer conditions . Already , yearly sunflowers ( spread by the birds ) are up in my garden and at Este Garden @este.gardenatx , the reincarnate gardens at the former East Side Café garden ( more about them before long ) . At Este , they ’ll help oneself shade off the freshly imbed tomatoes this summer . So , it was a kick to note that theLady Bird Johnson Wildflower Centerhas honour sunflowers as their firstWildflower of the Year! There are more than 80 native specie that include the common yearly and perennial fall standout , Maximilian helianthus . Find native flora of all kinds at the Wildflower Center’sSpring Plant Sale — once again with extended days .
