I ’m felicitous to see that ( some ) rose gardens are looking advantageously these days , thanks to their good - looking and exceedingly - performing groundcovers . To my eyes , they cover all sort of rosebush want throughout the yr . ( have intercourse the blooms ; the plants not so much . )
Here are some of my ducky , all appearing now at theU.S. Botanic Garden .
These first 2 shot were taken on April 4 , when the only blooms in the Rose Garden are from early daffodils , but this Sedum ‘ Angelina ’ is already looking fabulous . Did n’t look speculative in January , either . ( That ’s my now - vintage hybrid bike posing centre phase . )

By April 24 the Sedum appear like it ’s on ardor . The purple flowers are – I ’m believe Nepeta ?
Also in late April , Ajuga looks great with what appear like a Thyme .
The Rose Garden at its peak in late May . The blossom of course look good in snug - up but thanks to the groundcover , the whole garden looks in effect .

Finally , the Dianthus are peaking .
