Flowery paradise in Columbus
My name is Alana and I garden in Columbus , Ohio . My current garden is about 7 years old and I ’m constantly tweak it . One of my preferred component of gardening is being surprise by the unexpected . I loveself seedersandbiennialsor not - quite - hardy plants that survive over several years . The current layout take up most of my 1/4 Accho property and there is not much grass left . Looking back at last twelvemonth there were some decent moments .
In April , Miss Saigon hyacinth(Hyacinthus‘Miss Saigon ’ , Zone 4 – 8) complements amoss phlox(Phlox subulata , Zone 3 – 9 ) , I believe ‘ Ronsdorfer Beauty ’ . Hyacinths provide fab color before much else is blooming . I ’m initiate to get intotulipsnow that the pace is to the full fenced , but before that jacinth were mydeer - resistantearly outpouring stars .
The pinks / purples in this bed inMayare common mallow(Malva sylvestris , Zone 4 – 8) , Felix Crousse peony(Paeonia‘Felix Crousse ’ , Zone 3 – 7 ) , Cloudburst phlox(Phlox‘Cloudburst ’ , Zone 4 – 8) , andDianthus‘Kate ’ ( Zone 4 – 9 ) . The mallows self seed well in my yard and some of them acquire tall than I am .

Here is a different seam in May . Allium‘Purple Sensation ’ ( Zone 4 – 9 ) is one of my favorite plants but does n’t always total back after our cockeyed winter inclay - ish soil . Many of the bearded irises I‘ve tried also shinny but the ones that make it run to multiply amazingly quickly . The orangish iris here I believe isIris‘Maid of Orange ’ ( Zone 4 – 8) . The dianthus isDianthus‘Vivid Cherry Charm ’ ( Zone 5 – 8) and there is aClematis‘Dr . Ruppel ’ ( Zone 4 – 11 ) . On the left field behind the iris is usual chives(Allium schoenoprasum , Zone 4 – 8) . I like them as ornamental plant until the flowers evanesce , at which full stop they founder and I rationalise them back . I do n’t live the cultivars of the blue sword lily or the geranium .
Pink ! This bed inJuneis a small eye - pop . Most of the plants that are blossom in this picture came from ejaculate I direct seed and hoped for the best . The pink flowers are sweet-scented William(Dianthus barbatus , Zone 3 – 8),Dianthus‘Delilah ’ ( Zone 4 – 9),Phlox‘Fashionably Early Flamingo ’ ( Zone 4 – 8) phlox , rose campion(Lychniscoronaria , Zone 4 – 8) , andPenstemon‘Red rock ‘n’ roll ’ ( Zone 4 – 8) . The campion and sugared Williams have ego seeded like a champ and the original thumping have been there for 3 or 4 class despite the heavy soil .
InJuly , the yellow - orangeCrocosmia‘George Davison ’ ( Zone 6 – 9 ) play off the garden pink from the phlox , Rainbow Marcella purpleness coneflower(Echinacea‘Rainbow Marcella ’ , Zone 5 – 9 ) , a speciespurple coneflower(Echinacea purpurea , Zone 4 – 9 ) from seed , andAllium‘Millenium ’ ( zona 4 – 8) . There is also a salmony canna(Cannahybrid , Zone 8 – 10 or as tender bulb ) cram in here I got after volunteering at a botanical commons .
