Last year we were renting a farm with lots of land , but that come to an final stage in December 2017 when we at last gave up on the bad cyberspace and moved into Ithiel Town .
trouble : we had no farming for horticulture !
Fortunately , in the spring I was capable to take over a quarter - Accho lot and works over there , so we at least could keep some Green , corn and pumpkins pass away .

It was a long ton of work , but we get to garden and keep television rolling . take proficient internet at the new locating was a handsome help as well .

2018 Yields
Last class I kept heedful track of our harvest . This year I did n’t .
My conjecture is that we harvested about 50lbs of greens , maybe 15 - 20lbs of okra , about 10lbs of corn and probably 25lbs of pumpkins , and another 5 - 10 pounds of motley peppercorn , tomatoes , etc . It was n’t huge , but we had slight infinite , little clock time and fortune and lots of trees and thicket and trash to clean-cut .
Let ’s be generous and say 125lbs ( unrecorded )
Next year we ’ll do much better .
2018 Failures
It took most of the year to get some realm of our own .
We also left our church because of the issue of babe baptism . Because my children were christen as infants , they were not allowed into manduction , so we eventually had to simply leave the church . Fortunately , we found a moderately conservative congregation that welcomed us in and let the tyke take part in communion – so this is more of a success than a real bankruptcy .
We really did n’t do nearly as much gardening as was normal , for various rationality .
I only managed to release one non - fiction gardening book .
I hurt my shoulder lifting barbell and had to quit working out .
I let YouTube slide more than last year .
I hired a gal to lead social media campaigns for me , which only lasted one month before she became overwhelmed with other workplace and settle to quit . I give up Facebook and Instagram early on in the year , then she convinced me to fetch them back , and then she quit … so I have some barely used societal media account now . I do station on Instagram again , so there is that , but I hate Facebook ( it belongs to Satan ) . The only one I really use on a regular basis other than Instagram is Pinterest , which is a useful place to find and pin idea .
2018 Successes
Books
I wrote the world ’s first horticulture thriller :
change state Earth : A Jack Broccoli Novel .
It ’s screaming , though not peculiarly a pecuniary success . Yeah , I know , it ’s crazy for a gardening author to write a comedic thriller . Taking a foray into fiction does n’t ordinarily work out all that well for non - fiction writers .
However , I have been signed with a publishing house and published five novels under psuedonyms over the last couple of geezerhood , so this is n’t on the dot novel for me , even if it is for most of you . This one was just more fun to indite than my usual gigs .
Speaking of that , the sequel toTurned Earthis 1/4 written , which reminds me : I necessitate to make an audiobook version of TE !
I released the audiobook ofPush the Zone : The Good Guide to Growing Tropical industrial plant Beyond the Tropics , whichyou can get on Audible here , anddirectly from me here on Gumroad .
Overall , the record book has n’t trade in any format nearly as well as my others ; however , I knew it was a niche topic and wrote it anyhow . Compared to composting , Florida horticulture , or survival gardening , microclimates and freeze protection for tropic plants is rather a bantam market .

The biggest winner of 2018 is that on Christmas Eve we finally shut on a man of land of our very own .

My TV titled “ The Aquaponics Delusion ” was manoeuver to be my first viral hit , but I decided to displume it because I had used sight of clips from various aquaponics gardeners ’ videos to illustration my period , which I then decide was not nice , despite fair use . I pop out my own side business making bench , tables and other beautiful things out of local and rescued wood . That has been successful , though it ’s not as easy as writing books .
Homesteading Summits
